**Reading calendars will be collected on January 6th**

November News

Just a few reminders for the rest of the month…

• Turn in your turkey feather if you haven't done so already
• Our class Thanksgiving feast is Monday, November 25th
• Your child will need to bring in two pieces of fruit on the day of the feast for our First Grade Fruit Salad
• Make sure your child is dressed for the late fall and winter weather - the students go to recess every day before lunch
• Be sure to check the Erieview Blast for upcoming school events in the month of December

Hello, November!

Halloween was a success! The boys and girls looked fantastic dressed up in their costumes. The parade and class party were great. Thanks to all the parents and especially Mrs. Johnson for organizing and planning the festivities.

Reminders:

*There is NO SCHOOL on November 5th

*Conferences & early dismissal are on November 6th & 7th

*Our canned food drive starts November 11th

Awesome Week

It's been a great week! Remember to sign up for conferences online if you haven't done so already. Also, keep in mind that our class is collecting Box Tops for Education. Have a great long weekend!!!!

Be sure to sign up for November conferences online. Please remember to send in a child size t-shirt and wire clothes hanger for a project we are completing in class. School pictures were sent home today, so check your child's backpack.

Halloween Festivities

Our Halloween parade and party is scheduled for Thursday, October 31st. The festivities will start around 9:00. Your child should wear their costume to school and bring clothes to change into afterwards. When planning your child's costume, keep in mind, no weapons! All parents are welcome to attend. Enjoy the rest of your week!

We had a great week! Just a reminder that PTA reading logs are due on Monday, October 7th. Be sure to checkout the picture slideshows and October poll to the left and enjoy your weekend!

Weekly Updates

*This week, we started spelling in our class-

•  Tests will be given at the end of each week
•  Be sure to look for tests to come home in your child's weekly folder

*The Halloween parade and party will be the morning of October 31st... Look for more information to come home and from the Erieview Blast!

*Visit Spelling City throughout the week to practice spelling words

Reminders

Just a reminder that picture day is on Monday, September 30th!! 

Just a reminder about our field trip to the apple orchard on Monday September 23rd. Your child will need a packed lunch with a beverage included. Please have your child dress for the weather. We are looking forward to a great day!

REMEMBER~ Reading logs will be collected on October 1st. Thank you for helping your child read each day!

Field Trip Pictures:(

Hope your child had a great week and is settling into first grade nicely! I wasn't able to upload our field trip pictures to the blog yet, but look for them next week. Please make sure your child has an art shirt and head phones at school if they do not already. Just a reminder that your child should have a snack each day because our lunch is later. Make sure your child is reading each school night! I will be checking reading logs on September 13th just to make sure everyone is on track. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

       This year we will be collecting Box Tops for Education. If you have any, please send them to school with your child throughout the school year.

We are looking for the following items to use in class for projects and centers:

• Duct Tape
• Old Magazines
• Stick on Foamies

       Tickets for home Shoremen Football Games can be purchased in the school office on Friday mornings for $3.

REMINDER: Reading homework has started as of yesterday.

REMINDER:
Our class has a field trip scheduled for September 5th at 9:00. This field trip will be at the Avon Lake Public Library covering the Needs of Living Things. If you are interested in chaperoning this field trip, please email me.

We had a fantastic first two days in first grade! We got supplies put away and we are starting to learn our classroom rules and procedures. We read two stories: First Day Jitters, by Julie Danneberg and Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes, by Eric Litwin. The moral of Pete's story is: No matter what you step in, keep walking along and singing your song because it's all good. This is going to be our class "motto" for the year. Each first grader made their own "Pete the Cat". Be sure to look for them at Open House!

Open house is TUESDAY NIGHT!!! Please see the flyer in your child's back pack for more details. At Open House I will be passing out your child's B.E.E. Book Binder and sharing information about the upcoming school year. I look forward to seeing you there!

If you have not returned your child's student information sheet yet, please do so ASAP. I am waiting to receive everyone's emails so I can begin to send out daily group emails to keep you updated on what is happening in our first grade classroom.

• The first day of school is Thursday, August 22nd

• There is no school on Monday, September 2nd
